Milspec Consulting offers two types of guidance in the forms of Mentoring and Coaching.  Both forms of guidance are rooted in the learning process and involve the provision of information and advice designed to assist in the realization of well-defined goals, or in the process of identifying and defining them.

Mentoring involves a two-way relationship with the Mentor learning about the Mentee and adapting as the relationship develops.  Mentoring is best suited for life-learning and self-improvement.

Coaching is a one-way relationship with the coach imparting knowledge to the student and is most often used in business and/or educational settings where the goals are more technical and less personal.

The line between Mentoring and Coaching can shift from time-to-time during the relationship; however, it is imperative that both parties understand these definitions completely in order for each to set and achieve realistic expectations from the relationship.  Identifying the primary purpose for the relationship is the first step towards that goal.
